Excerpt
from A Witch for Christmas by Barb DeLong
“Come on,” he said, opening his legs and patting the small space in front of him on the single saucer he’d brought. “Fun awaits.”
She looked way down the slope. The bottom seemed a mile away. She carefully sat while he held one of her arms to help her perch carefully on the saucer.
She grabbed the rope handles while Joe pushed off, wrapping both his arms around her. They flew down the slope. Abby screamed just for fun as the wind rushed past, grabbing at her hat and scarf. At the bottom, her feet came down and dug into the snow. The saucer went one way. They went another. She found herself on top of him.
Abby laughed. “Can we do that again?”
Joe wrapped his arms around her. “Sure. I may never be able to father children, but it’ll be worth it.”
His arms tightened. His hazel eyes warmed, like he’d mixed more cocoa in with the peppermint. A snowflake landed on his adorably crooked nose, broken years ago by one of his crazy sibs. Abby’s bones melted into his teddy bear snuggle-ness. She studied his well-shaped mouth, lips full and open slightly, and on how his breath visibly mingled with hers. She wasn’t cold. In fact, a hot coal seeped from her midsection and traveled south. She should pull free right now before one of them did something stupid. Joe was just a friend. A very, very good friend. Was she still leading him on when she promised she’d stop? She would hate herself in the morning if she let him kiss her.
Abby leaned in and kissed him.
The Authors
Jill Jaynes began her love affair with romance when she was a teenager growing up in Southern California, spending many a late-night under the covers with a flashlight and good romance novel. This early addiction stuck, and she discovered one day that telling great stories was even more fun than reading them.
When she’s not writing, you can find her a) wine-tasting, hiking or otherwise hanging out with her awesome husband, b) walking her two high-maintenance dogs, c) plotting her next story with her writer-daughter or d) working at her day job in her spare time.
