‘The Company of Demons’ by Micheal Jordan Book Review

The Company of Demons by Michael Jordan

The brutal murder of a friend leaves lawyer John Coleman stunned and sends shockwaves through the city of Cleveland. The technique of the killing recalls memories of the Torso Murderer, who dismembered at least twelve people decades ago and then vanished–eluding even legendary crime fighter Eliot Ness. Jennifer, the victim’s beautiful daughter, hires John to handle her father’s estate, and romantic feelings for her soon complicate his already troubled marriage. When John finds himself entangled with a cold-blooded biker gang, an ex-cop with a fuzzy past, and the drug-addicted son of the dead man, he struggles to make sense of it all.

But he cannot shake a growing sense of dread.

My Review:

Thank you NetGalley and Micheal Jordan for the free Arc for an honest review!

I enjoyed that it included a real crime with likable characters. Filled with twist and turns that you will not see coming! I thought this novel started off interesting setting a very dark, grim look with a slow start. Near the end things got very interesting but I did enjoy the middle parts of course! I was prepared to write a 2 or 3 star review but from how this ended had me staying way up passed my bedtime! How dare it right? lol

If there is more in this style would be very much a read from me! Or to be read haha. Anyway, we follow our somewhat relatable if you had that type of upbringing or can relate in somehow. However, there are parts I did not like at all but kept reading through it. There was heavy cheating, racism, chopping writing and some consistencies. Like how can the killer be roughly 100 years old and can effectively murder someone? Don’t you think they would be too frail? I was thinking this should be a copy-cat or maybe a child of the murderer following his fathers footsteps because wouldn’t that just be awful. Then the cheating was hard for me and how could THEY of not known? Like how? Especially with the siblings being so close.. cause like i’m sure they would of talked about it in some sort. Then the racist father like come on.

besides those points it became four stars because Jackson gave us mystery, structure for police procedural, and enough action that even I stayed up too late. The characters are well thought out even with their flaws and proven to be realistic due to those flaws, and their conflicts as well as their passions and driving psychology are skillfully woven into the story. Some things of course did not add up but that is fine – Still led to a good story and I can’t wait to see newer work from Jackson.

Yes—an international thriller lies in the future! He has also acted in several theatrical productions and his experience on stage is helpful in creating characters for his novels. He is currently working on his next book, a thriller set during the closing stages of WWII.

A native of Saginaw, Michigan, Michael and his wife, Linda Gross Brown, a soft pastel artist, divide their time between homes in Rocky River, Ohio, and Longboat Key, Florida. They enjoy traveling, pleasure boating, and very cold martinis.
