In The Psychic’s Memoirs, a hot-tempered Los Angeles detective and his distracted partner are assigned to find an alleged teenage psychic whose capture might determine the outcome of a looming civil war and humanity’s relationship with a misleading alien force. The standalone novel is part of Ryan Hyatt’s Terrafide series, techie tales of woe and hope in which characters grapple with a world falling apart. The Terrafide universe, which also includes Rise of the Liberators and Stay Younger Longer, takes place on an alternate timeline that mirrors and mimics present-day events.

Praise for The Psychic’s Memoirs

“The Best Cyberpunk Novels of 2020 and 2021” –Joel Stafford, Joel’s Books

“A mind-warping journey through an all-too-plausible near-future America where sociopolitical revolution and advanced technology represent the promise and peril of human evolution.”–Jake Anderson, author of Gone at Midnight: The Mysterious Death of Elisa Lam

“Hyatt’s superior ability to build a convincing lived-in world just over the horizon is on display page after page. This is not another orgy of post-apocalyptic horrors, but an opportunity to see every calamity as a possible stepping stone toward utopia.”–A.L. Lorentz, author of The Filter Trap and Dead Monkeys

My Review

Firstly Thank you RockStar Book Tours and Author Hyatt for the chance to read in exchange for an honest review of this wonderful book!

This book starts with an LAPD detective by the name of Ted Kaza whom lives a solitary existence whom somehow has one companion whom is his dog. This of course is what I presume is mostly due to his anger management issues that he is prescribed therapy for. However, Kaza has been having these dreams where he lives in a loft living a richer and happier life as his alter-ego named Simon Cardoza.

Now we focus in on Lydia Jackson, Kaza’s partner, whom has her own issues such as career, money and a baby fever fiance whom is soooo spoiled. But then Kaza and jacksen recieved a new assignment…. They have to find a high-school girl, Alice Walker, who left a societal maelstrom after publicly predicting the earthquake that had split California six months prior. Oh, did I not mentioned this is post-quake Los Angeles?

The author, Hyatt, has a way with having such unique and relatable characters that sink into you almost hooking you into their action packed dystopian future. Somehow this tied in current events, culture and social issues in such a sci-fi fashion that I quite enjoyed. Then how Hyatt uses humor, puns and keeping the page turning without missing a step – This author defiantly has a talent.

I have to give this book 5 stars just from the sheer enjoyment of it. Love it and look forward to more!
