My Review

Before I even read the title nor the authors name I saw this impressive yet terrifying cover that is also beautiful. You instantly feel anxious like the world is moving faster than yourself in the face of danger. Something evil is obviously coming! And What Big Teeth did not disappoint with the very poignant prologue and a massacre to scare you.

I’m a huge horror buff and it is what I prefer to read & watch. Living in a haunted house has calmed down my desire though but your spine will tingle while your blood freezes over. Even I had trouble sleeping after reading just a few chapters the first night before bed – first mistake- and every night after that – 2nd mistake-. Even after finishing it I’m still shivering from what happened and I’m so shook that this is Sbazo’s first book!

We meet Eleanor whom was sent to a boarding school by her grandma and have not heard nor seen her family in a long, long time. Her appearance is a shoe in for bullies to target her until one day she turns on the bullies – Good for her! – but she did a bad, very bad thing following by running away from the boarding school and going back to her family home.

Her family is what I imagine is the weirdest-horror set of people you could ever imagine – They make the Monsters, Beetlejuice, Goosebumps and the Adams Family seem like child’s play in comparison. And with weird, awkward and dysfunctional relationship patterns that quickly gets out of control what happens next is more in shock than the last. Things get crazier, more confusing and frightening as moments progress with pages turning. I’m still getting goose bumps! However, the horror is light but the way Sbazo creates such atmosphere and settings was the cherry on top that made me gasping at every moment.

I hope there are more like this from Szabo because I will be there to read them once they are released! And you should too because this five star read is defiantly have the capability to be binge-able with the slow paced and leaving you in the dark for awhile but I enjoyed being on the edge of my seat.

Special thanks to Xpresso Book Tours & Rose Szabo for this advance reviewer copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review during the tour!
